Satellite Communications:
Domesat is widely used satellite communication software, which
has been in use by Commercial Fishing, Oil & Gas and Yachting
since 1996. Upgrades are available for existing non-XP Domesats
(up to version 2.5) as well as upgrades from other manufacturers'
software. Please contact us for further information and pricing.
Despite the fact that it is now possible to send and receive
messages to and from Inmarsat-C mobiles over the Internet,
Domesat's popularity has remained - mainly due to:
- Speed of delivery (messages consistently delivered within
2 minutes - whereas e-mails can 'wander off' for a while)
- Ease of use (no short-codes or headers required...)
- Security (there are no known instances of message security
being breached)
- Ability to send to any Inmarsat-C mobile (e-mails can
only be sent from e-mail address authorised by vessel owners)
In 1993 both of Dome's directors were then employed by a
software company who developed an innovative Virtual Earth
Station (VES), which pre-dated British Telecom's Goonhilly
Land Earth Station. This caused much interest in London, prompting
a visit from senior BT and Inmarsat officials, who were amazed
to discover that the service they were about to introduce
was already available and working.
All of the VES software development was carried by Martin
Evans, now Technical Director of Dome. Douglas Armstrong was
responsible for the operation of the VES.
